YSTUDIO, founded in 2012, brings Taiwanese design to the international stage with its copper pens that combine craftsmanship and aesthetics, providing a more emotional and warm writing experience. The brand has expanded to 36 foreign markets. As it approaches its 10th anniversary, YSTUDIO reflects on its growth and changes over the past decade and prepares for the challenges and responses of the next decade. While retaining its original spirit, the brand has decided to redefine itself with a new brand identity.
After internal communication and discussion, YSTUDIO, based on the foundation of stable development over the past ten years, hopes to present an image that is more international, youthful, and fashionable in the future, and to develop more products to expand its brand influence. The new logo continues to use lowercase lead type as the basic shape, presenting the artistic and romantic style of its founding. However, when redefining the logo, the brand has design an all-caps sans-serif font with a more geometric layout and wider styling that still retain the curves of movable type, emphasizing the possibility of exploring craftsmanship and the beyond. The circular border inherits the characteristics of the previous logo, with a more concise design and a slightly elliptical shape. This design was chosen to define the space of the logo (brand worldview), as an elliptical shape is closer to nature, handmade, and organic than a perfect circle. These have been the core and unique personality of the brand.
For the Chinese standard font of the brand, YSTUDIO has commissioned font designer Julius Hui to use Ku Mincho font, with slight adjustments to the characters "物外" to better suit the brand's tone.
In response to the usage characteristics of YSTUDIO products, it is necessary to consider how to make the logo a long-lasting and firm symbol on the products without being abrupt. This is also the goal of this brand reconstruction. The brand hopes that the new brand identity can better match the current visual vocabulary, connect with each other, explore oneself, and exert greater influence.
